Cedarwood:
We chose the Texas white variety for it's clean scent and it's therapeutic
properties. High in sesquiterpenes and stimulates HGH.
Chamomile. Roman: A study reported in the journal Pharmacological
Research Communications 20 (Suppl 5):71- 74 showed anti- inflammatory and sedative properties.
Eucalyptus Globulus: We chose this variety as it is excellent for respiratory
difficulties but if not rectified it can irritate sensitive nasal passages. So ours is the rectified variety. The
chemical constituent Myrtaceae has antiviral activity .1,8 cineole has anthelmintic, expectorant and antiseptic
properties.
Frankincense:
High in sesquiterpenes , stimulates the immune system. Because
of the sesquiterpenes, has been documented to cross the blood brain barrier and helps oxygenate the pineal and
pituitary glands.
Geranium: One of the ten most antibacterial oils tested at the Scotland Agricultural
College (1987). Fifty plant essential oils were tested in different concentrations for antibacterial activity against
25 genera of bacteria.
Lavender:
We have chosen the higher quality Bulgarian lavender as it has a higher percentage of important chemical constituents,
making it more effective with a smoother more pleasant fragrance.
Lemon:
Has been shown in lab studies to inhibit growth of molds. Limonene has b antiviral properties (also found in grapefruit
and orange).
Oregano:
This oregano has a very high percentage of the chemical constituent, carvacrol. Carvacrol has been laboratory tested
and shown to kill many microbes and bacteria and possibly have anti-cancerous activity .
Stimulates the immune system.
Peppermint:
We use a redistilled variety. It is much ber in pain relieving chemical constituents making it much more effective
for muscle pain and headaches. Contains menthol, a topical antipruritic, analgesic, and antiseptic. Relieves bronchial
and nasal congestion and can be used internally as a gastric sedative. Camphor acts as an analgesic also.
Ravensara:
A relatively unknown essential oil. This oil is wonderful for respiratory problems, is antiviral, an expectorant
and antibacterial.
Tea Tree:
In laboratory tests at the University of Zurich, showed potent antimicrobial activity against anaerobic bacterial
in the oral cavity, along with peppermint and sage oils. A research study has shown tea tree oil to be effective
in treating acne.
Ylang-vlang:
There are quite a few grades of Ylang and even though the lower cuts are acceptable, we chose the 2nd cut which
has a higher percentage of phytochemicals and also has a softer floral scent that we find more appealing.
Benefits of using Essential Oils
top
1. Detoxify the body: Black pepper, birch, cypress, grapefruit, lemon and rosemary oils help to release toxins
and restore muscle tone.
2. Relieve pain: Basil, marjoram and rosemary have analgesic affects that help to relieve pain. They can also expand
the blood vessels allowing blood to move more freely thereby reducing swelling and inflammation.
3. Uplift the emotions: Bergamot, frankincense, lemon, orange, peppermint, petigrain and rose all help reduce anxiety
and create joy and happiness.
4. Improve circulation: Essential oils are easily absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. This can increase
circulation and blood flow to the heart. Black pepper, cypress, eucalyptus, grapefruit and rosemary are the best
oils to use for this purpose.
5. Balance hormones: The body’s adrenal system helps to regulate over fifty hormones or hormone-like systems. Basil,
cedarwood, geranium, sage, and rosemary are adrenal stimulants and can be used for stress-related exhaustion. Marjoram,
lavender, sandalwood, chamomile and vetivert can help calm an overactive system. Rose and sandalwood also help
with pre-menstrual symptoms. While clarey sage, marjoram, and chamomile are useful for cramping and labor pain.
6. Respiratory system: To help with colds and flu, use eucalyptus and tea tree oils. Asthma and dry coughs are
best helped with chamomile or cypress. To promote the removal of mucus - eucalyptus, peppermint and pine are excellent
expectorants. The best ways to use these oils are inhalation, compresses and baths.
7. Strengthen the immune system: The lymphatic system plays a big part in the body’s immunity. The following essential
oils can be used to alleviate problems in the lymph system: black pepper, clarey sage, cypress, lavender, rosemary,
and sage.
How smell works
top
When essential oil evaporates, gaseous odor molecules enter the
nose when we breathe. The nose then warms the air, which dissolves the molecules into the mucous membrane that
covers the olfactory. Millions of cilia (hair-like nerve endings) send a message (from the smell) to the olfactory
bulb, which in turn, sends those impulses along to the amygdala (responsible for storing and releasing emotional
trauma) and further on to the limbic system of the brain. Because the limbic system is directly connected to those
parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels and hormone balance,
essential oils can have some very profound physiological and psychological effects.
Tips for Incorporating Aromatherapy Into Your Day
top
1. Place 5 drops of Essential Oil on washcloth or sponge before
entering shower or bath. Light and refreshing oils to use in the summer are Lemon and Cedarwood or Sweet Orange
and Sage. Oils for a winter pick-me-up are Eucalyptus and Grapefruit or Spruce and Sweet Orange. Good for any time
are Rosemary, Sage and Lavender.
2. Apply Body oil as a moisturizer (add 10-15 drops of essential oil to 1 oz. cold-pressed vegetable oil).
3. During ride to work add a few drops essential oil to a car diffuser. If one is not available, oil may be applied
to your car mats or dashboard. Peppermint is a stimulate and great choice for those slow to get started in the
morning.
4. For an afternoon energy lifter, bring a mister to work in your briefcase. Whatever your preference of essential
oil, use approximately 8 to 10 drops per 2 ounce of water. Mist yourself when your energy is low in the afternoon.
5. Incorporating essential oils into your laundry routine can be fun and produce excellent results. In the rinse
cycle of your wash; add 10 drops of your favorite essential oil (they do evaporate and don't stain, but be slightly
frugal). Add 10 drops of essential oils to your dryer sheets as well.
6. Before getting into bed pull back your fitted sheet and drop at least 10 drops of essential oil on your mattress.
Use calming oils like Lavender, Marjoram, or Chamomile. Use Clarey Sage on your pillow to increase your dream awareness.
7. Use essential oils (Lavender, Geranium, Chamomile, Ylang-Ylang or Bergamot) for an evening bath to wash away
the day. Make sure to run the water first. Just prior to Immersion in your bath add 8 to 10 drops of essential
oil to your water (use your hand to swish it around or mix with a little vodka or milk first and then add to bath).
Submerge for at least 10 minutes. Relax…
